The new EU cookie laws explained in 2½ minutes. A good summary, but also arguably misleading as it is still undecided whether tracking is considered “essential” or not yet. Via @dan_hud on Twitter.
More information on the new EU cookie laws over on the GoSquared blog.
If you have a spare hour or so, here’s me talking about how we built GoSquared.
The talk consists of Q and A with Salim Virani and various members of the audience with questions ranging from how we got started to best practices for A/B testing, as well as a little discussion about what GoSquared’s technology stack looks like.
It was a pleasure to speak at the LeanStartup meetup, and I’m very grateful to everyone who turned out to listen and ask questions.
Hope you enjoy it.
The Web is Free
Every time I think about Apple’s intentions, I get both excited and worried.
I get excited like the rest of us because Steve always pulls out a device that is jaw-droppingly beautiful, has been thoroughly thought out, and has been slaved over for years.
What worries me most, though, as an application developer and distributor (I’m speaking of GoSquared here), Apple is gaining a rather daunting level of control over an entire market, not just their own marketplace. With the iPhone, and soon the Tablet, Apple’s App Store will continue to go from strength to strength.
But Apple has complete control over the ecosystem, and that worries me as someone who does NOT have complete control over how their products and services are distributed and used.
Which is why I am so thankful for the web being an open and beautifully free platform.
No matter what Apple does with their App Store, as long as WebKit and Safari are on their devices, we’ll always be able to innovate and compete on the iPhone and Tablet.
