Move fast and break fewer things

The last few months have been a huge learning curve for us at GoSquared.

We’ve been growing the team and understanding what it takes to enable everyone to work at full speed to a core vision.

Picking up the pace.

In the past week at GoSquared, we’ve been pushing updates, improvements, and new features like crazy.

In one week, we’ve rolled out a ton of bug fixes to the GoSquared Dashboard.

We had some issues with performance on slower devices that were really making people unhappy. We even had issues where some people’s dashboards wouldn’t update reliably in real-time. All fixed this week.

Full Screen Map View.

We rolled out one of the most highly requested features our customers have been asking for - Full Screen Map View. This is a stunning piece of engineering and design. The Locations widget in Dashboard can now be maximised to fill your screen with a beautiful world map, including a daylight line that updates in real-time, and a list of the top locations you’re popular in right now. Watching the widget expand into a full screen view is addictive. We built and released this this week.

New Social features.

We’ve introduced a new suite of Twitter services that enable you to understand how Twitter is impacting your site in real-time. Instantly see a new tweet that’s driving people to your site. See how many people have retweeted it. Reach out to them and say thanks, maybe even follow them and connect with the people that are bringing you visitors and potentially customers. We released these great new features this week.

Entirely new Setup experience.

We rolled out a dramatically clearer, more intuitive setup experience. We removed a whole step from the previous setup process so that you can go from 0 to real-time in even less time. We made some great usability improvements and refined the whole flow so that first time customers get the best possible experience.

Improvements to Home.

We introduced a couple of great updates to the Home area so that you can now order all the sites in your account based on how many people are on them at any one time (concurrent visitors online), by their names, and by when they were added. They update and transition in real-time (using a great project called Isotope), so if you have a bunch of sites you can now use the GoSquared Home area as your mission control for seeing which are doing well. We rolled this out to our customers in the last week.

Pinger.

We introduced a new internal service called Pinger that detects which of your sites have their tracking codes installed and are able to send data to GoSquared, and also which of your sites are online or offline. Another really handy service that makes the experience of using GoSquared better than anything else out there. Again, we rolled this out to our customers in the last week.

You get the message. We’re moving faster. And we’re doing so by breaking fewer things and working together as a unit.

Whenever we can, we try to act now, not tomorrow.

Follow the GoSquared Blog for more updates on what we’re working on.

The new EU cookie laws explained in 2½ minutes. A good summary, but also arguably misleading as it is still undecided whether tracking is considered “essential” or not yet. Via @dan_hud on Twitter.

It’s me - being interviewed by Vitaly Vlasov of NevaCamp about GoSquared and how real-time web analytics can help improve your site and business.

By the way, The Next Web conference was awesome - I highly recommend it to anyone who’s a) running a web business, and b) who wants to party in Amsterdam.

If you have a spare hour or so, here’s me talking about how we built GoSquared.

The talk consists of Q and A with Salim Virani and various members of the audience with questions ranging from how we got started to best practices for A/B testing, as well as a little discussion about what GoSquared’s technology stack looks like.

It was a pleasure to speak at the LeanStartup meetup, and I’m very grateful to everyone who turned out to listen and ask questions.

Hope you enjoy it.

Really proud of our latest update on GoSquared - sign up is now a really simple 3 step process that (we hope) you’ll find a joy to use.

The LiveStats Radar icon is going to be showing up more from now on. Also - those dots that show up when the radar screen goes green? They’re the locations of real visitors on your site.

The whole team has worked their asses off on this (seemingly simple) 3 step process - I can’t thank them enough.

Hope you like it.

Introducing FutureStats

FutureStats - Tomorrow's Traffic Today, from the creators of LiveStats - GoSquared Today we’re incredibly excited to announce an entirely new product from GoSquared - FutureStats. Learn more by visiting the site, but for now here’s some key features:

Traffic Spike Prediction

One of the most challenging issues of the web 2.0 era - the traffic spike. Until now it’s been impossible to predict when you’re going to receive your next flood of traffic from Digg, a Fireball, or Twitter. Worry no more.

Twitter Reaction Forecast

Worried that what you’re writing will be controversial, poorly received, or simply just ignored? Find out in advance how the Twitterverse will react to your Site’s content, even if you haven’t written it yet.

Member Prediction

Accurately predict the number of new users you’ll receive tomorrow, next week, or next month. Even find out their names and emails before they ever signed up. All you need is FutureStats.

PredictionEngine

GoSquared PredictionEnginePatent Pending technology to predict the future of your Site’s Stats with 100% Accuracy. As you may know, dividing by zero can have dangerous, dramatic, and undesirable effects. Don’t believe us? Go and try it out, but don’t write to us if your computer explodes and destroys your entire neighbourhood). At GoSquared we discovered that if we divided by zero under specially controlled conditions, we could create a small but effective wormhole in the fabric of time and space. By maintaining this wormhole in a high-energy plasma state we are able to pass electrical signals between here and any time in the future we wish. And by ensuring that the other end of the wormhole is continuously connected to a high-speed internet connection, we are able to retrieve browsing data for websites at any time in the future.
