Client: We need to use WeirdoFont on our website.
Me: That’s not possible, the font is not a common web font.
Client: Nothing is impossible! It’s just a question of time and money.
Me: Well, OK, I’ll travel around the world and install the font on all internet-connected computers, if you can get the copyright clearance for the font.
Client: That’s more like it! You’ll be...

You wait all year for a decent article to get written about you and 2 come along in the same day. Funny that eh?
App Store vs. WebKit
stevenf:
Slightly longer version of a tweet from this morning:
Apple makes the iPhone SDK. They’re also one of (if not the) biggest contributors to WebKit.
WebKit’s capabilities continue to grow exponentially. I’m blown away by what can be done with it today. If development continues apace (and there’s no reason to believe it won’t) it seems realistic that within a reasonable amount of...
Google Dominance
marco:
Aaron Swartz:
Google gets a lot of criticism (often deserved), but it’s worth taking a moment to think of all the things they haven’t done. If Microsoft had Google’s market share in search, is there any doubt that they’d be systematically demoting or even banning their competitors in the search results? Demoting someone in Google is a virtual death sentence, and yet not only has...

iMac Vector Icon by GoSquared on Liquidicity →
I like making icons of Apple products. Unless there’s shiny chrome involved (iPhone rim), they’re usually nice geometric shapes with rounded corners and subtle gradients.

Google have put more thought into the interface of Chrome than Apple have into Safari, on the tabs side anyway. Very impressive.

Showtime, and Apple's Problem →
Showtime, if you haven’t already seen it, is a beautiful web app designed for the iPhone to find out what’s on TV and remind you when your favourite programmes are on.
It’s a lovely, really well designed web app, but what’s important here is what this means for the App Store. As more and more developers get sick of the approval process, it seems web app development is...

GoSquared Site Map →
Been tidying up the Site Map for the GoSquared site. It’s a pain having to keep it updated manually, and then providing an XML version for Google too. There are better ways of doing this and I should really look into them.

Speaking of Watches
russianpencil:
Another post about simplified watches from Dezeen, this time about a watch sans minute hand:
Defakto is a young brand established at the beginning of the year 2009. We have made it our objektive to redefine the feeling of time by the creation of a mechanic single hand watch. Within this form the single hand principle is unique. We build place our confidence on understatement and...

Nokia shuts up Regent Street shop - Times Online →
I can’t help but laugh. The most amusing thing is their store is right opposite Apple’s Regent Street address.
I remember on iPhone 3GS launch day Nokia launched a phone too. BBC Radio 1 reporters were outside interviewing customers who had just bought the iPhone 3GS and comparing their comments and thoughts with those who had just purchased the new Nokia device.
They never managed...
